WTTC engages in extensive research to produce data-driven thought leadership reports and other insights about the current and future Travel & Tourism landscape.

WTTC’s research covers a wide variety of topics, from the environmental and social impact of Travel & Tourism to technology and travel facilitation, crisis preparedness and analysis of specific regions and segments within the sector.

WTTC produces datasets on the economic, environmental and social impact of Travel & Tourism in economies and regions across the world. But WTTC also builds on this raw data, alongside research techniques such as surveys and interviews with WTTC members and other business leaders, to create thought leadership reports that look into the opportunities for sustainable economic growth in particular domains.

WTTC’s insights address the challenges facing Travel & Tourism, but also provide guidance and recommendations for both the private sector and governments to increase their competitiveness, alongside showcasing best practice examples of policies and initiatives that are critical to the sustainable development of Travel & Tourism.

Social Impact

WTTC provides research on the social impact of Travel & Tourism, as well as guidance on how to maximise Travel & Tourism’s positive social outcomes. Notably, WTTC promotes destination stewardship policies highlighting the positive role that Travel & Tourism can play in local communities: providing inclusive employment opportunities, strengthening the social fabric, and supporting the protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.  

WTTC produces research and tools to support the sector in its efforts to ensure that all people are supported and empowered to succeed. This includes creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workforce, respectful partnerships with local communities, and inclusive experiences for travellers. WTTC also focuses on issues relating to the Travel & Tourism workforce such as staff retention and the requirement for, and development of, skills.
